I wonder how this show (Derek) actually went with the U.S. audience.

I hated The Office (definitely hated the U.S. remake of it) but Derek was actually subtly funny.

Good question.

Oddly enough, the more Derek I watched, the more I liked it. It seemed to become less funny, and more heart warming, the more it got on. This I liked.

It was the subtly of it. It was more observational humour that many could relate to with older members of family of members who need a little more care.

The U.S. doesn’t always get British humour and ends up making awful remakes like Being Human. The U.S. version was a whole new level of crap along with Shameless, Coupling, etc...

The U.S. versions always go for the younger actors who look like they just finished modelling school.

It’s nothing against the U.S. but more towards the networks not allowing any ‘realism’ to come through.
